Boat Ramps
Melka Marine, Inc. recently completed replacement of two boat ramps at Pohick Bay Regional Park for the No.Va Regional Park Auth. The project involved removing concrete sections and rip rap of the existing ramp, dredging approximately 600 CY of river sediment, installation of gravel sub-base and installing 56 sections of ArmorFlex™ concrete mats measuring 4’ x 25’ and 8’ x25’ which extended the boat ramps about 45’ each.
Railroad Bridge Inspections
Norfolk Southern Railroad Corp. awarded their 2014 Underwater Bridge Inspection to Melka Marine, Inc. in late May 2014. Fifty-five bridges will be inspected in 9 states, which began in June 2014. The divers will travel from Florida to New Jersey and perform Level I and II underwater inspections (visual and tactile) determine if any of the following conditions exist:
1. Scouring
2. Deterioration of piling, sheet pile walls (bulkheads), sheet pile cells and fender systems, (if present).
3. Masonry deterioration (ex. Cracks, settlement, etc.).
4. Any other condition necessary for repairs.
The inspections will be prepared under the auspices of the National Bridge Inspection Standard (NBIS) program requirements. The inspections will be performed by our qualified bridge inspector-diver team and a report for each will be prepared under the direction of a licensed professional engineer.
